We appreciate Autauga County Administrator Scott Kramer in providing the EAN with updates concerning the Autauga Metro Jail, including an incident earlier this month where a jail employee was trapped in an elevator. He also addressed the process of mold remediation inside the jail.
In the issue of an employee, Kramer said he was notified of the event by Warden/Captain Nixon that day, and acknowledged the email the same day, as well as copying the Sheriff Mark Harrell.
“We have a contract with an elevator company with a current certificate of operation as well as a monthly maintenance agreement. After learning of a part that needed to be ordered, a purchase order was issued and shared with Captain Nixon for the elevator company last week.
The employee was conducting a fire watch patrol at the jail when the elevator stopped working, leaving the employee trapped for a short time. Jail officials as well as the Prattville Fire Department responded, and the employee was safely extricated with no issues or injuries.
Kramer also responded to a question about the status of the fire system for the Autauga Metro Jail.
He said, “There has been a vendor hired to replace obsolete parts in the fire system. Parts have been ordered and we are awaiting them to be received within the next 2-3 weeks.”
As for the mold remediation at the jail, Kramer said the Commission anticipates receiving the results of RFPs next Tuesday. Once more information is available, including quotes for work needed at the facility, Kramer said the Commission will have an idea of the time needed for repairs, and when prisoners can be brought back to Autauga County.
