If there is a post season award or honor, chances are Wetumpka Softball’s Mya Holt won it at some point during her high school career. The list of honors and awards is staggering.
As a junior, Holt was on Wetumpka Softball’s 2023 Class 6A State Championship team. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the Class 6A State Tournament and later named Class 6A Player of the Year and Class 6A Pitcher of the Year. She was placed on Class 6A 1st Team All-State and the Alabama Sports Writers Super All-State Team.
“2023 was all around an amazing year,” said Holt. “That team worked through so much together and was truly special. The feeling of knowing I was finally a state champion was surreal. What made it even more cool was my sister, who has also won a Wetumpka softball state championship, was coaching me.”
Holt also earned more statewide and national recognition after her junior season. She was named Alabama 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year. She made 1st Team All American by Max Preps and Extra Innings High School. She was the ITG Next 2023 Female Athlete of the Year and the Parisi Speed School Athlete of the Year.
Holt made the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s 2023 All Star Team and won the Most Valuable Player award for the South team.
The Wetumpka softball squad advanced to the Class 6A State Tournament again in Holt’s senior season. Once again, Holt brought home a long list of awards. She was named Class 6A Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season, as well as making the ASWA Super All-State Team. Holt made 2nd Team All American by Max Preps.
The Wetumpka grad was the Elmore County Player of the Year three years in a row from 2022-2024 and holds more than 20 school records. She appreciates all the people that have supported her during her high school career.
“My coaches, teammates, and fans have confidence in me no matter what. No matter the circumstances they have all always believed in me and I’d say it has taken me a long way.”
Holt will continue her softball career at Troy University. She first visited a camp in September of her junior year. After a successful camp, she was asked by Coach Newell to go on a tour. Within a week, Holt was offered a scholarship, and knew that was where she wanted to be.
“My main goal is to graduate with a degree while still working hard on the athletic side and trying to succeed like I have before college,” said Holt. “I just want to learn and grow throughout my time at Troy and I believe being an athlete at the collegiate level will definitely help me learn lessons that are even valuable to life. I am currently still undecided on my major. I do think I want to stay involved in sports in some way with whatever I do.”
Holt will report to Troy on August 10.
