The Autauga County Commission met very briefly for their second meeting in the month of May, Tuesday evening.
The commission approved a resolution consenting to the formation of a public corporation as an improvement district. According to the Federal Highway Administration, improvement districts are privately directed and publicly sanctioned organizations that supplement public services within geographically defined boundaries by generating multi year revenue through a compulsory assessment on local property owners and/or businesses.
The Commission also approved to hire Brooklyn Wolfe as a full time correctional officer replacing former Autauga Metro Jail corrections officer Jesse Rodgers. Rodgers was recently charged with making terroristic threats against the jail where he used to work.
The commission also approved the agreement and the partnership with ALDOT for Lidar imaging. Lidar, or light detection and ranging, is a remote sensing method used to examine the surface of the earth.
Revenue commissioner Kathy Evans stated this is within the budget and will be used to further assess damage from the previous tornadoes in the area.
A state EMA, emergency management agency, subaward for $17,000 was awarded to the Autauga County EMA. a subaward is an award provided by a pass-through entity to a subrecipient for the subrecipient to carry out part of a Federal award received by the pass-through entity.
County engineer, John Mark Davis, gave a few updates regarding mowing and other projects throughout the district. Davis stated that with two tractors that the county is about 30% of the way through cutting grass, with the rains last week creating a setback.
The next County Commission meeting will be held June 4th at 5 p.m.
