The Millbrook City Council met Tuesday, and the ongoing construction of Phase II for Seventeen Springs and the Marketplace was discussed.

If you have driven by the site on Hwy. 14 recently, the progress is obvious. The 86,000 square foot Field House is beginning to go vertical and can easily be seen from the highway. For many months, the background work has been moving forward at a fast pace, but not as easily visible.

The Marketplace at 17 Springs is also seeing plenty of dirt being moved, as workers prepare the pads for future businesses coming soon.

For the latest updates, you can follow progress at the 17 Springs Facebook page, which recently posted photos of artists renderings of the final project. Those are shared below.

The Elmore County Commission and City of Millbrook recently awarded the bid for the construction of the Marketplace at 17 Springs. The massive construction activity will result in the installation of the necessary infrastructure to make the property pad ready for businesses to locate near the Alabama 14 frontage parcel. When construction of the Marketplace is complete, it will be a destination for lodging, dining, shopping, and recreation.  While the Marketplace construction launches, Phase II of 17 Springs continues with the diamond fields, auxiliary buildings, the Fieldhouse and stadium all continuing to take shape.  For more information about the 17 Springs project, visit the website at www.17springs.org

Through a successful partnership, the dream is becoming reality.

The partners include the City of Millbrook, the Elmore County Commission, the Elmore County Economic Development Authority, the Elmore County Schools system, and the Greater Montgomery YMCA which includes Grandview Family YMCA.

Tuesday the council authorized Mayor Al Kelley to enter into a one-year agreement with Retail Strategies for consulting services. The city will use their expertise to entice businesses to look at Millbrook for future development. In the past, the city had a three-year term with the agency, and the city had considered ending the contract this year.

Mayor Kelley said he and Economic Development Director Ann Harper met with the company, afterwards deciding to keep the contract for at least one more year at a cost of $35,000.

“They would like to work with us on the Marketplace and 17 Springs. They have made a lot of contacts,” Mayor Kelley said.

Ann Harper said Retail Strategies staff attending national conferences and sharing information about Millbrook is very valuable.
