Every year since 1986, the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce has proudly hosted the Prattville CityFest in Historic Downtown Prattville. This year marks the 36th annual event.
CityFest takes the party to the streets of Historic Downtown Prattville, with the promise of live music, shopping, great food and activities for all ages and this past weekend was no different, with perfect “Chamber of Commerce weather,” as Chairman of the Board Lisa Miller calls it.
“My favorite part of CityFest is showcasing our community. That’s the biggest part of CityFest, is being able to showcase the great quality of life that we have here,” Miller said.
Last year CityFest attracted over 15,000 people that flocked to the streets to enjoy the festivities, shop and support local, Marketing and Communications Director Brooke Glover confirmed. However, this year, Miller stated that she thinks they exceeded that number by thousands.
Entry was $2, military was $1 and children under five got in free. Opening ceremonies were held Friday evening with The Tip Tops from Mobile opening the music for the weekend.
“This year was similar to previous years, but we had a lot of new vendors this year with some exciting products to showcase and sell. It was a great way to shop for Mother’s Day. Also, the downtown shops were open for everyone to enjoy some downtown shopping,” President of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce, Patty VanderWal said.
Saturday and day two of CityFest started mid-morning, where vendors lined the streets of historic downtown from Court Street past the Picker house until closing around 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s music lineup consisted of the Blackbird Pickers at 10 a.m., the Taylor Bagi Band at 12 p.m. and The Alex Walker Band at 2 p.m.
“I mean, our vendors are really, really fabulous vendors this year. From food and arts and crafts and services. It’s just a great array and a very diverse group of vendors as well. Our Chamber does a fabulous job in promoting this event. It is our biggest event of the year,” Miller said.
The streets were full of smiles Saturday afternoon, where the citizens of Prattville and others from all over the state of Alabama shared a wonderful spring day, bringing in Mother’s Day right, in the heart of the River Region.
