The 73rd annual National Day of Prayer is an event that helps mobilize unified public prayer across the U.S.A. A service was held at Cooters Pond in Prattville to celebrate the National Day of Prayer where this year’s theme was “Lift up the Word, Light up the World.”

The National Day of Prayer is always on the first Thursday in May. According to the website, the National Day of Prayer was enacted in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie proclaimed May 2, 2024, as National Day of Prayer in the City of Prattville, where all citizens were encouraged to pray in accordance with their own faiths and consciences.

A husband-and-wife duo, Aaron and Meagan Broach, organized the Prattville National Day for Prayer where they had a stage, electric keyboard and microphones so everyone could hear.

“I’m just excited to bring the church, and really the entire community, together for a united event. The theme this year is lift up the word, light up the world. If you look at the world, it can get pretty depressing. It is pretty dark, so we’re just hoping to bring some light and some hope into this community tonight,” Aaron said.

Members of the community came together to sing songs and hear testimonies of other local citizens of their personal journeys and relations with God.

Gillespie, as well as Prattville City Council President Lora Lee Boone, and Councilmen John Chambers and Tony Merick were present for the event. There were also countless members of the Prattville Community.
