Last Friday, the Elmore County Child Nutrition’s HOT SPOT food truck made its debut at Coosada Elementary School. The HOT SPOT truck goes around to all of the high schools in Elmore County. They prepare and cook delicious grilled food items, that are not on the monthly school menu, for an entire week to students, teachers, and staff. The Hot Spot Team, in partnership with the Café Teams, have worked together to build this wonderful program. All students receive free breakfast, and lunch due to the district participating in the USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

“The Hot Spot has had a great year and is making its last round of visits to the high schools but also making stops at all of the middle schools and elementary schools before summer break,” said CNP Director, Cacyce Davis.

She continued, “The Hot Spot team, in partnership with our Cafe teams, have worked hard to build the Hot Spot program, and it is such a great opportunity for Elmore County Students.  Because our district participates in USDA’s Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), all students receive breakfast and lunch at no charge, and that includes the meals served by the Hot Spot.”

The students at Coosada loved the grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and it was a huge hit for them! The teachers, administrators, and staff enjoyed brisket nachos, street corn, fresh strawberries, and blueberries.

The Hot Spot will make one more stop at Coosada Elementary for Field Day.
