Autauga Deputies investigate apparent Murder-Suicide in Independence overnight

Autauga County had its first homicide in two years overnight, as a domestic situation turned deadly. The suspect reportedly fled the scene later killing himself in Dallas County.

Deputies were called to County Road 40 in the community of Independence around 10 p.m.. There they found a young woman dead of a gunshot wound. They tracked her husband to Dallas County where he was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Autauga County Sheriff Mark Harrell released the names of the deceased as the initial victim, Sarah Banks, and her husband and apparent shooter as Christopher Banks. Harrell said there were no children in the home where the initial shooting took place.
