Prattville Christian Academy freshman point guard Kayden Carr left everything she had on the court this year. From being the team’s top scorer and main ball handler to shooting 40% of shots beyond the three-point line. Now she’s taking it to the next level in just her first year by being a top three finalist for the 4A Alabama High School Athletic Association, AHSAA, Basketball Player of the Year.

Being the main ball handler for the PCA girls’ basketball team, scoring on average 17 points per game and scoring over 30 points in multiple games last season.

“Good things happen for our team when she has the ball. The one thing that separates Kayden from other really good players is that she can do it all.  She can handle the ball, pass the ball, score at the rim, get to the free throw line, shoot from deep, rebound, and defend.  Kayden’s biggest strength is that she has no weaknesses,” PCA head basketball coach Jason Roberson said.

Carr has been a varsity starter since the 7th grade, Roberson confirmed. Bringing commitment and competitiveness to the team, every game and practice every day. Roberson stated that very few players, let alone freshman, are willing to work as hard, and sacrifice as much as she does to be as committed as Carr is to the game that she loves.

“Kayden is no doubt one of the best Freshmen in the State of Alabama as well as one of the best overall players in the State.  Coaching her has been an absolute joy.  Because of her love for the game and her work ethic there is no telling what the future holds,” Roberson said.

Carr has scored 956 points in her varsity career since starting as a varsity player in 7th grade and has shown no signs of stopping or slowing down in the future.

“To be a finalist for 4A Player of the Year takes a very productive season across the board.  It takes consistency throughout a long season.  I also believe it takes someone who elevates their team and helps them also be successful. Kayden has done all of that and more as she has already been a starter on two state championship teams and another Final Four Team in her three years of playing varsity since the 7th grade,” Roberson said.
