This past week at Airport Road Intermediate School, over 200 fourth-grade students transformed themselves as famous Alabamians. They were able to come to life and create a living wax museum to show their families what they have learned about their famous person. Students spent the entire nine weeks researching the person they picked. The students created a poster themselves, along with dressing up as their person, for their famous Alabamian project. All parents were invited to attend their child’s living wax museum at the school.

First, they had to create a timeline of events in their person’s lifetime. A map of the area their person made the most impact, quotes from their person, impacts made by their person, and even learn to make a citation for their research were included.  Students had plenty of time to research about in class and at home. They also completed their poster showing off their hard work. The students also spoke in first person about their famous Alabamian. Families were able to come out to see their child at the Living Wax Museum.  The entire 4th grade at ARIS, over 200 students, completed this project for nine weeks.

“I love to see all the students dressed up and enjoying themselves,” said Shannon Crawley, Fourth grade Teacher at ARIS. She continued, “It is so exciting when students see that learning is fun!”

Many of the students dressed up as Governor Kay Ivey, Martin Luther King Jr., Bobby Allison, Nick Saben, Bo Jackson, Heather Whitestone, Helen Keller, Tim Cook, and many other famous Alabamians.

“By creating a living wax museum, we are able to bring history to life and engage our parents in an interactive way to learn about the past,” said Principal at ARIS, Marcy Stephens.
