U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (AL)

WETUMPKA, AL – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Tuberville met with administrators and employees of the Elmore Community Hospital. He toured the facility and spoke with hospital representatives about his strong support for investing in rural healthcare in Alabama.

Senator Tuberville serves on the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) where he works diligently for patient-centered solutions in our health care systems. Senator Tuberville also serves as the Ranking Member on the Rural Development and Energy Subcommittee, under the Agriculture Committee, where he is tasked with overseeing many programs in rural areas.

Alabama is a rural state, with 43.6% of the population living in rural areas. Alabama’s health care systems work hard to reach patients through innovative care strategies involving community outreach and telehealth.

In February 2023, Senator Tuberville signed a letter asking for a four-year extension of the Low Wage Index Hospital Policy in an effort to prevent further payment cuts to rural hospitals.

Senator Tuberville also joined the Guaranteeing Healthcare Success to Personnel Who Served (GHAPS) Act in an effort to increase access by deploying virtual care for veteran care for Alabama veterans living in rural areas.

Additionally, Senator Tuberville cosponsored the Creating Opportunities Now for Necessary and Effective Care Technologies (CONNECT) for the Health Act. This legislation would expand telehealth services by removing barriers to coverage, strengthen program integrity through education and oversight, and further the development of best practices with investment in data and testing models.

Coach Tuberville is committed to doing what he can at a federal level to make sure federal resources are leveraged appropriately for Alabama’s rural population.

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, and HELP Committees.
