Emergency workers and officials throughout our area had a long night, as a tremendous amount of rain and storms brought down trees and power lines.

In Elmore County, there were around 20 trees down, according to Elmore County EMA Director Keith Barnett.

“We saw a lot of flooding and ponding of water on the roadways, particularly on the west side of Elmore County. Particularly in areas of Millbrook, Elmore, Coosada, Lightwood, Holtville, but all the way into Wetumpka as well,” Barnett said.

Officials are encouraging everyone who must travel, to do so very carefully and slowly.

“We still have some roadways with one or two inches of water flowing over them, so in those instances it is better to turn around and not drown, and proceed very carefully,” Barnett said.

The Millbrook Fire Department responded to Millbrook Point (formerly Devonshire Apartments) and found some shingles on the roof damaged and power out in the area. There was no other structural damage to the buildings, however.

Several lines were down due to trees falling, so some in Elmore County lost power. Those lines have now been cleared off roadways, Barnett said, and utility companies are working to finish restoring power to all impacted.

It was much the same in Autauga County, with multiple areas of roadways covered, and trees down. Again, utility companies are working as quickly as possible to restore power to impacted areas.
