The Prattville City Council met Tuesday night at 6 p.m. for the last council meeting of 2023, where Brandy Mitchel was appointed to the Industrial Development Board in light of the recent resignation of Chairman Lisa Miller.
Miller’s resignation went into effect on December first, and Mitchel was appointed a member of the board, effective immediately. Mitchel’s term will expire on February 17th, 2029.
Council President Lora Lee Boone confirmed that Councilor Robert Strichik of District 6 was absent due to illness at Tuesday night’s meeting.
The city council also voted to approve a resolution to establish the 2024 redistricting guidelines where councilman Marcus Jackson of District 2 and Albert Striplin of District 1 had concerns on the guidelines.
The original resolution was introduced at the last council meeting on Dec. 5th and was held for a vote until Tuesday’s meeting where the resolution was adopted.
“It was my understanding that we were going to be having a public input and council discussion after the guidelines were adopted and this was just the initial step to get us rolling and after that the guidelines will establish how often we will have public input and at what point,” Boone said.
Prattville City Attorney Andrew Lee Odom also stated in answering questions to the council that this is a resolution which can be revisited, modified or amended at any time if the council sees fit, and confirmed that this resolution is amendable.
A report of the city finances was given to the council by CPA Deputy Finance Director Calree Sims and a Mayoral report was given by Mayor Bill Gillespie. Gillespie thanked first responders, the council members and community for their efforts and contributions to the city of Prattville.
All other resolutions on the agenda at Tuesday night’s meeting were adopted.
