Editor’s Note: Many prayers are flowing for the family of this young man killed earlier today in a single-vehicle accident in Elmore County. The student, whose identity has not been released officially by ALEA, was an athlete and student at Elmore County High School. Last week in a separate tragedy, a Holtville High student was also killed. Please keep these families, friends and school staff in your thoughts as they navigate through this horrible time.
UPDATE from Elmore County Schools Supt. Richard Dennis – We were notified today that a 17-year-old Elmore County high school student was killed in an accident; another 18-year-old Elmore County high school student was injured in the same accident. The principal at Elmore County high school has opened the gym and has local pastors and counselors available for those who choose to visit. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

MONTGOMERY POST – A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11:13 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, has claimed the life of an Eclectic juvenile. The 17-year-old was fatally injured when the 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche the teen was driving left the roadway and overturned. The teen was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on Harrogate Springs Road, approximately one mile east of Wetumpka, in Elmore County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
