ALEA Assisting Montgomery PD with Officer-Involved Shooting investigation

MONTGOMERY COUNTY – At the request of the Montgomery Police Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) are investigating an officer‐involved shooting, involving officers with the Montgomery Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, near the intersection of South Panama Street and Poplar Street inside the city limits of Montgomery within Montgomery County. Initially an officer responded to a call concerning an individual armed with a firearm that had been shooting.

As the officer arrived at Poplar Street near Ann Street the suspect opened fire shooting at the officer and another individual who was struck with gun fire. Simultaneously, additional officers arrived on scene and the suspect began shooting at
them as well. A foot pursuit ensued until the suspect reached a business near the 1100 Block of Ann Street. Once there the suspect barricaded himself within the business.
A stand-off continued until the suspect, later identified as Devonta L. Fuller, 23, of Montgomery, was taken into custody. Fuller was injured during the course of the incident and was taken to a local area hospital, where he was treated and released. Fuller was then transported to the Montgomery County Jail and charged with three counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Robbery in the First Degree with no bond.
An officer with the Montgomery Police Department was also injured during the incident, all requests concerning the officer’s condition will need to be directed to the Montgomery Police
Department. The bystander who was also struck by gunfire was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment.
Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
