Senior Edition of Battle Chef Program successful at Autaugaville Senior Center

The Teen Battle Chef Program-Senior Edition was a successful pilot program held at Autaugaville Senior Center recently.

Fifteen senior citizens endured through eight sessions of showing their culinary skills with dishes from Brazil, Mexico, America, Asia, Italy and France. Many of these dishes the students have never had but would make these at home.

Learning palate development, knife skills, nutrition education, food safety, and recipe modifications, were intricate parts of the Tenn Battle Chef Program.

Celebrity Judges were available to taste test these delectable dishes, such as Autauga County Sheriff’s Department, Autauga County Senior Services staff, Bennie Bell Jr., County Extension Coordinator Darrue Sharpe, 4-H Agent Kacey Powell, Advanced Master Gardener Bionca Lindsey, Urban SNAP-Ed Regional Educator Gloria Maxie, Autaugaville Senior Center m embers Mr. James and M s. Underwood.

Graduation was very well attended by Autauga County Community leaders, family and friends.

The graduates worked hard for this moment. Celebration commenced with joy, laughter and refreshments.

The graduates were relieved after the hard work but said they would di it all over again if given the chance.

People have been spreading the word about Teen Battle Chef at Autaugaville Senior Center. Even some people have joined the center.

This c culinary program really put Autaugaville on the map.

The graduates are Chef Anita Bates, Chef Cynthia Calhoun, Chef Beverly Clark, Chef Elizabeth Davis, Chef Shirley Finch, Chef Luthina Hall, Chef Maxine Houser, Chef Henrietta Livingston, Chef Louisa Love, Chef Bertha Minor, Chef Clemontine Nunn, Chef Bessie Parker, Chef Bobby Seaborn, Chef Annie Willis and Chef Marie Willis.
