A hometown family nativity scavenger hunt hosted by the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce will take place Dec. 21st at 131 N Court St. in Prattville starting in the Chamber parking lot. The event starts at 6 p.m, however festivities in the parking lot start around 5 p.m. that evening. The event is for all ages, free to all, and a great way to get immersed into local businesses and the holiday spirit this season.

Each clue will be within a half mile radius of the Prattville Chamber and instructions for the hunt will be clearly marked upon receiving the first clue in the Chamber parking lot. The first two clues will have driving instructions and instructions on the best places to park for those respective clues.

The nativity scavenger hunt was created in 2020 with a plethora of individuals who are devoted to the Prattville community. Autauga County Probate Judge Kim Kervin was the mastermind behind the original nativity scavenger hunt. Other members of the community that brought this scavenger hunt to life with Kervins and the Revenue Commissioner Kathy Evans, Circuit Clerk Deb Hill and President of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce Patty VanderWal as well as her team at the Prattville Chamber.

“It started in the covid year, when everything had to shut down and not having a lot of events around town. I was looking online and I found this nativity scavenger hunt and thought this would be great to use in Prattville,” Kervin said.

This way all the participants could stay in their car and still participate in an event with the community during the height of 2020. Now that everyone can be together again, the nativity scavenger hunt highlights the local business just before christmas, when last minute gift shopping is at its highest.

“It will be a way for everyone to come together and spend time with their community. Some people will have cocoa, candy or cookies. It’s a very Hallmark type of feeling, we’re excited, it’s a change but a good one,” Kervin said.

The first clue will be in the Chamber parking lot where there will be other local businesses and vendors to kick start the event off. Local vendors or businesses without a storefront are welcome to set up in the Chamber parking lot for free, it is a first come, first serve basis, and the Chamber is currently taking reservations.

“The thrill of finding it at the end. It’s a fun free event where the family gets to spend timetogether and it’s for all ages,” Kervin said. The Chamber is also looking for additional entertainment for the nativity huntevening, local carolers or school groups are welcome. All inquiries for vendors or anything else are to be sent to nativityhunt@aol.com.
