Help us Welcome Malia Riggs to the Elmore/Autauga News! We are Thankful for Her

FROM THE ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS TEAM

Malia Riggs is the newest member to Elmore/Autauga News.

She joined the team in early November and jumped right into covering Autauga County, where her primary focus will be moving forward.

However, Malia is not from the area originally. Over the summer she packed up her Jeep and drove across the country with her two cats to be with the love of her life who lives locally.  She is still getting familiar with the area but has already made a very positive impact for our team.

Malia is from a small town in the Willamette Valley, McMinnville Oregon. It’s an hour south of Portland. This is where she was born and raised, in the heart of Oregon’s wine country.

In McMinnville she attended Linfield University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications as well as a minor in coaching swimming. She also swam at the collegiate level all four years during her time at Linfield.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Malia is an avid hiker and lover of anything outdoors. In her previous works for Coast Weekend Magazine and the Daily Astorian Newspaper she would write features on hikes and coastal destinations on the north coast of Oregon.

A lover of sports and photography, Malia is pursuing her passion of becoming a photojournalist right here with Elmore/Autauga News and has high hopes for her time going forward in the River Region.

She is looking forward to an Alabama Spring but has loved the Fall here so far. “It’s a different kind of beauty than the Pacific Northwest but I have loved every second so far,” said Riggs.

If you have a story idea from Autauga County or Prattville, please feel free to reach Malia at 503-857-9682 or email her at mriggs@riverregion.news
