On Friday, November 17, in front of a large contingent of family, friends, and classmates, Stanhope Elmore High School Senior Kara Busbin signed a collegiate scholarship to play golf at Southern Union State Community College. Busbin toured the Southern Union campus and met with the coaches in September prior to her decision.

“I decided to choose Southern Union because I really liked their team and the coaching staff,” said Busbin. “I also loved the environment of the school and their home course where I will be practicing. I also really love the Auburn area.”

Busbin’s rise in the golfing community comes after starting to play in the 8th grade following the advice of her father.  Since then, Busbin has achieved several impressive accomplishments. These include shooting a 76 in the Spring 2023 Class 6A Girls Sectional at the RTJ Magnolia Grove Course in Mobile and qualifying for the Class 6A Sub-State Tournament as a Junior.  Busbin also participated in the girls’ golf competition at the 2023 AHSAA North-South All Star Week in the summer before her senior year.

Busbin will have one more high school season at Stanhope Elmore before beginning her collegiate career at Southern Union, and possibly beyond.

“My goals at Southern Union are to take my game to the next level and continue to work hard. I am planning on furthering my golf career after my two seasons at Southern Union. I don’t know where I’ll go after Southern Union, but I know that I want to continue to play golf and become a Physical Therapist.”
