Prattville Chamber hosts celebration of military appreciation week proclamation

The Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a celebration in acknowledgement of military appreciation week on Wednesday morning Nov. 8th at 132 Court St.

During the event, City of Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie spoke and read a proclamation to commemorate veterans and active service members in the Prattville community and proclaimed the week of Nov. 6-11 military appreciation week in Prattville.

“The military is so important to this community,” Gillespie said. “So many folks have come and gone through Maxwell and Gunter and come back. I just can not imagine Prattville without the relationships built,” Gillespie said in regard to Maxwell and Gunter bases being deeply integrated in the community.

“I slept very well last night because I know there is a lot of peace in this area because of our military,” Gillespie said.

Military appreciation week honors all men and women and branches of the Armed Services, including active-duty, reserved and retired personnel, as well as the family members of those who serve.

“The point of this event was to recognize the fact that here in Prattville and Autauga county that we want to show our respect and honor to them and to bring the city and county together to give the proclamation to the servicemen,” President at Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce Patty Vanderwall said.

In attendance Members of the Prattville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, numerous men and women in uniform, state representatives and members of the Prattville community.
