Elmore County Receives Joint Safety Planning Grant

From the Elmore County Commission

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) recently announced its Safe Streets and Roads For All (SS4A) grant awardees. Elmore County along with Autauga, Chambers, and Perry Counties were among those selected for funding. The fiscal year 2023 awardee list included 235 grants totaling $82 million to regional, local, and Tribal communities for planning and demonstration projects to improve safety and help prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways.

The Elmore County Commission thanks the Chambers County Commission for being the lead applicant on this joint planning grant. The county looks forward to working with the other counties in updating our County Safety Action plans to continue to improve the quality of the county road and bridge network.

The purpose of the SS4A grant program is to improve roadway safety by significantly reducing or eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries. The program focuses on the development of a comprehensive safety action plan and its implementation for all users of our highways, streets, and roadways, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation users, motorists, personal conveyance and micromobility users, and commercial vehicle operators. The program provides funding to develop tools to strengthen a community’s approach to roadway safety and save lives and prevent serious harm.
