MILLBROOK, AL – Saturday by the start of the 10 a.m. Boo Festival in Millbrook there was already a sea of people, many in costume, and parking was becoming an issue.

The event which started small so many years ago at Village Green Park has continued to grow in size every year. Last year an estimated 6,000 people attended, and officials said they expect that number to be much higher this year.

Booths were running out of candy midway through the event, sending runners to buy more.

But it makes sense! A beautiful day combined with free games, candy, music and contests brought people out by the thousands. The Farmers Market was in full swing. Food trucks were doing a great business. The crowd never thinned much, even up to near 2 p.m. when it officially ended.

The park was decorated throughout with plenty of photo opportunities. Speaking of photos, our crew took around 100 we have in the gallery. Tag someone you know, or share. It was a great day to celebrate Fall in Millbrook. A huge thank you to the hard work of city staff, including the Millbrook Police who worked traffic, of which there was a lot. Cars filled the lot at the Millbrook Civic Center, vacant lots and up and down Main Street.

The Fire Department had displays, and area businesses and organizations were well represented. Special Events Director Danae Morgan put her own special touches of creativity on the decorations, which will be up through Halloween. If you did not make it to the park today, make a plan to go before the decorations are taken down. It was an excellent job on the part of everyone involved, including the crowd. Not a single issue was reported to police, according to Chief P.K. Johnson. That speaks volumes, so participants get a shout out as well.

Happy Fall Y’All.
