Prattville YMCA Field of Dreams receives funds for New Concession Stand, Press Box

From Peter Dorough

Special to the EAN

Things are growing again at the Prattville YMCA’s Field of Dreams.

This past Thursday a special presentation was held with State Representatives Jerry Starnes and Kelvin Lawrence, closing the gap in the last steps of building a much-needed concession stand and press box for the Field of Dreams.

The presentation was given to David Lewis, Keith Cantrell and June Dorough. These funds will partner alongside commitments from the Prattville Baptist Hospital and Prattville Civitan, to finish a building that will be much more than just a building. The Field of Dreams isn’t just a baseball field for special needs players, nor a gathering place for people with disabilities. It is another tool that will help those same people with essential life skills.

Adding on to what’s already offered at the Field of Dreams, this building will be able to be used as a classroom, teaching fundamentals that so many take for granted. This won’t be an exclusive building. It will be able to add a much-needed area of the YMCA that doesn’t have normal access to a concession stand for snacks and drinks for the participants of soccer and flag football.

Our mission in life is to help one another. It’s a must as our kids are our future, no matter their physical or mental status. Being able to uplift and care for each other sets an example of empathy, caring, and nurturing the best of all of us. That’s the mission of the YMCA, taking it to the next level, partnering with heroes, to make more heroes, and to smile while doing it.

Thank you again to State Representative Jerry Starnes, Kelvin Lawrence, Prattville Baptist Hospital and Prattville Civitan for your support of an amazing charity. It would not be possible without heroes like you.
