Several of Prattville’s residents and city officials gathered Thursday afternoon to celebrate the dedication of the North Highland Park pavilion in honor of Mary Virginia Harris.
Prattville’s rich history and historical landmarks are many of the great attributes that attract people to the city daily but some of the greatest assets to the community are the people that helped make the community what it is today.
One of the most valuable and loved citizens in the community is Mrs. Mary Virginia Harris.
Harris has lived in Prattville her entire life.
She was the first black nurse in Autauga County, breaking barriers for those to come after her.
She is a graduate of North Highland School and then Nursing school in Montgomery in 1958.
“I’ve known Mary Virginia Harris for many years and she has been good to me and this community. This dedication is well deserved,” said Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr.
Stop by North Highland Park and check out all of the great new additions and upgrades that they’ve made and will continue to make this year.
Mrs. Harris feels grateful to the citizens and mayor for their support and for being so good to her for so many years. She thanked everyone that helped make the day possible for her.
