Six Millbrook Police officers were recognized and promoted at the Millbrook City Council meeting Tuesday with friends and family in the audience.

According to Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson, the officers represent the future of the department, and have stood out in their jobs and service to the community. But this is just the first batch of promotions, as the next event will be after the first of the year.

Recognized Tuesday include Sergeant Jacob Williams promoted to Lieutenant; Corporal Alexander Webb promoted to Sergeant; Detective Zackary Sumerlin promoted to Detective Corporal; Officer Taylor East promoted to Corporal; Officer Austin Windham promoted to Corporal; and Officer Bill Barker promoted to Detective.

“I just cannot say enough about the department and the men and women who serve here in Millbrook,” Mayor Al Kelley said. “We appreciate everything that you do, the sacrifices you make, the time you have to spend away from family.”

Mayor Kelley said that the Millbrook Police Department takes crime very seriously, and as the population continues to grow, their duties will undoubtedly expand.

“I thank you all,” Mayor Kelley said.

P.K. Johnson said that in modern times, it can be difficult to find men and women willing to take on the role of police officers. Applications are not flooding through the door, as departments across the state compete for the best people, and the number of new officers going through the academy are dropping.

“I thank you for what you do every day for this department, and I am very proud of all of you,” Johnson said. “We want you to grow with this department. You are our future.”
