National Merit Program Recognizes Prattville High School Student Amelia Cantwell

Amelia Cantwell has been named a semifinalist in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Amelia is one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists in the 68th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. This academically talented high school senior has an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 Nation Merit Scholarships worth $28,000,000 that will be offered next spring. To be considered for the National Merit Scholarship, semifinalist must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of competition. About 95% of the semifinalists are expected to obtain Finalist standing, and more than the half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship. 

Amelia is a senior at Prattville High School.  She competes on the Cross Country and Track teams and is a member of the Speech and Debate and Science Olympiad teams.  She is a member of the Beta Club and the National Honor Society.  Amelia is an AP Scholar with Distinction and was a member of Girls State.  Amelia’s father is a Brigadier General in the Air Force, and they were stationed in Sicily, Italy for her 9th and 10th grades.  While attending Sigonella High School, Amelia was a member of the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium and earned a certificate of Merit in Italian.  Amelia would like to attend either Princeton or MIT and study either math or electrical engineering.
