Lily Davenport was named First Team All-State in Class 6A as a Designated Hitter as just a 10th grader.  She was a key piece that contributed to Wetumpka winning the Class 6A state championship in 2023.

The sophomore was a terror at the plate, batting .425 with a 1.124 OPS. Davenport had 58 RBIs. She scored 49 runs during the year, and had 76 total hits, with 52 singles, 15 doubles, and 9 home runs. In addition to batting, Davenport played 1st base for the Indians, and finished the season with an .882 fielding percentage.

Davenport recognizes the accomplishments she’s made at an early stage in her high school career. “Making All-State and All-County was a very big deal to me. I’d always looked up to the girls and thought it was a very cool opportunity to be picked.”

She’s proud of the team’s accomplishment of winning the state championship and cited the Indians’ ability to overcome adversity early in the playoffs as one of the most memorable moments of the season. “In the Regionals we lost our first elimination game and were able to come together as a team to show we really wanted it and fight our way back.”

It wasn’t just the championship, but the road to get there that left an impression on the rising junior. The support showed by Wetumpka fans is something she will always remember. “Receiving the support from the school when we made it to state and seeing all the articles and events that got thrown for us after the fact was a cool thing to be a part of.”

Davenport is looking forward to her final two years in high school. She has big plans as a student and athlete.

“I always look forward to football seasons and Friday night lights too, that’s the time of year with junior/senior prank, pep rally, and homecoming that is always the bulk of the fun. I really want our team to try and make it to state again next year, even if we don’t win it I think just making it through regionals and to the state tournament again would be a confidence booster for our team. It would be a huge deal for me to make the North-South team next year and be a part of that game with some of my teammates.”

During the summer, Davenport is still playing ball and getting reps. She currently plays for Adidas Premiere 2024. They have traveled throughout the southeast this summer. Playing for Adidas Premiere 2024, she has a .462 batting average with 23 RBIs and 3 home runs and 18 runs scored. She has a .964 fielding percentage at 1st base.

In June, Davenport committed to play softball collegiately at Anderson University in South Carolina.

“I always wanted to travel for college and when I went to visit Anderson the whole vibe of the campus was different than the other schools I’d been to. The school takes really good care of their students and it just felt like a place I could see myself at. Anderson’s softball team is also very competitive, they were South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Champions and Tournament Champions two years ago. They were ranked the #1 team in the Southeast Region and #14 in the Nation. I think it will be a good way to experience new things and a different environment than Wetumpka. I’m excited to see how I come into myself.”

In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Davenport is also a member of the Beta Club and the National Honor Society and is ranked 6th in the class at the end of her sophomore year.
