William Lahmer, of Elmore, arrested for Theft of Property by Millbrook Police

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

Pursuant to an investigation, detectives with the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit were able to identify an alleged offender, William L. Lahmer, a 39-year-old Elmore resident. Lahmer was placed under arrest on July 10, 2023, being charged with one count of Theft of Property 3rd Degree. Lahmer was processed and later transported to the Elmore County Jail without incident.

On July 3, 2023, Millbrook police officers responded to a complaint of equipment theft at a business, in the 3300 block of Main Street. The complainant advised officers that he was contracted to perform construction work at the business. Upon his return from a break he discovered that an unidentified subject had removed a concrete saw from his work area. The business was equipped with surveillance equipment, which revealed a possible suspect who removed said property from the business.

I want to commend our detectives for their work in this case. It never ceases to amaze me at how many people in society today, who given the opportunity, will just casually walk or drive up to a business or a person’s residence and just take someone’s property, as if it’s their own. It’s a shame that you have to secure your property just to take a lunch break, but that’s the world we live in today.

That said, more and more today, we are seeing businesses and citizens utilizing surveillance equipment to protect their property, which has enabled us to have another tool in our toolbox to assist our investigators in identifying these offenders.

People who may consider committing these type of property crimes, may also want to consider the fact that people have grown weary of this activity and are taking steps to either avoid becoming victims or at the very least, making sure that they can capture those who would commit crimes on video, in hopes that they may be identified and prosecuted. We will use every tool in our toolbox to discourage this criminal activity, as well as identify, apprehend and prosecute those who persist in committing thefts in our City.
