PRATTVILLE, Ala.—Seventeen Autauga and Elmore County 4-H’ers competed in a variety of events on Friday, April 14 at the Central Alabama Community College campus in Prattville. Students had the ability to compete in public speaking, baking, birdhouse building, photography and Lego competitions.
Autauga County 4-H Foundation Regional Extension Agent Kacey Powell said she was pleased with event attendance and participation.
“We had so many students participate in a variety of programs today,” Powell said. “This was our first Autauga County Competitive Events Day and it really set the stage for exciting things to come in the next year.”
Prattville River Bank and Trust sponsored the first and second place winners in each competition category and age bracket. Judges from area organizations, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, the Alabama 4-H state office and the Alabama 4-H Foundation were also in attendance.
Autauga County Extension Coordinator Darrue Sharpe said this was a wonderful way for 4-H’ers to showcase their talents.
“We are fortunate to have very talented young people in our 4-H programs,” Sharpe said. “This was a great day for community partners to see our youth excel in competitive events.”
Powell said the team was happy to provide area youth with the opportunity to showcase their talents and strengthen life skills.
“Students not only submitted a project, but also had the opportunity to present that project to judges during an interview,” Powell said. “They also had an opportunity to interact with other 4-H members from all over the county.”
