Autauga County Master Gardeners Plant Sale is April 29

By Katie Nichols, Alabama Cooperative Extension System

PRATTVILLE, Ala.—The Autauga County Master Gardeners are holding their annual plant sale on Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to Noon at the Prattvillage Garden.

Community members are encouraged to come and shop for all of their gardening needs. Available plants include:

•              Perennials

•              Herbs

•              Roses

•              Shrubs

•              Trees

•              Bulbs

•              Houseplants

Additional items include gardening necessities and yard art. Free soil test kits and instructions will be available, as well as opportunities to watch live demonstrations and have gardening questions answered by the experts.

Mallory Kelley, Autauga County Master Gardener Coordinator, said volunteers make a difference in the community every day.

“Without this fundraiser and the support of the community, the efforts of the Autauga County Master Gardeners would not be possible,” Kelley said. “There are a few additional fundraising options, but this is the largest fundraiser that the group does. It is important to their success.”

Proceeds from the sale support the Autauga County Master Gardeners and their beautification efforts in Autauga County. Projects include the demonstration garden in front of the library, Prattvillage Garden, partnerships with schools or nursing homes and many other volunteer projects. Funding also supports the monthly lunch and learn programs on the third Wednesday of each month at Trinity United Methodist Church in Prattville.

In the event of inclement weather, a rain date has been planned for April 30 at 1 p.m.

About Master Gardeners

The Alabama Extension Master Gardener Program is based on the idea of shared ownership. Both Extension staff and volunteers share ideas, visions, dreams and responsibilities for the program. To that end, volunteers have opportunities to work with Extension programs; federal, state and county agencies; and local schools and organizations. Autauga and Elmore Counties benefit from Master Gardener beautification projects and volunteers. Master Gardener volunteers also devote lots of time and effort to local schools and students.

All Master Gardeners represent Extension as educational resources for their communities. Their overall mission is to improve the quality of life where they volunteer.
