Donations for Tornado Victims Pour in to the Autauga County Extension Office

FROM THE AUTAUGA COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE

AUTAUGAVILLE, Ala.—Donations have come from far and wide as Alabama residents work to support their neighbors in need. The Autauga County Extension Office was established as a FEMA donation site shortly after the Jan. 12 tornado, but County Coordinator Darrue Sharpe said the office has seen a recent surge in donations.

“We are so thankful for the donations that continue to pour in to our office for our neighbors in and around Autauga County,” Sharpe said. “The continued show of support from people all over the state has been humbling.”

Donations from Near and Far

In addition to individuals and families making donations as they have driven through Autaugaville, churches and service organizations have made their physical and monetary support known.

Little Zion AME Church in Ramer, Ala. felt strongly about providing food for children who had been affected by the tornado. Their $500 donation will help the Autauga Interfaith Care Center (AICC) provide nourishment for families with children.

Early in the week, employees from Alabama A&M University and Alabama Extension at Alabama A&M made the drive from Normal, Ala. to deliver toiletries, sheets, clothing and other essentials for families that are still struggling after the devastating tornadoes ripped across the area.

The Psi Lambda Zeta chapter of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority chose to provide donations and support to Autauga County tornado victims as their service project in 2023.
