Over 100 Youth Attend ‘Taco Bout It’ event at Millbrook Civic Center

FROM MARJORIE BOWDEN

“Let’s ‘TACO’ ‘Bout It” was a roaring success on 21 March at the Millbrook Civic Center! Over 100 youth attended this fun and informative event that including dancing, a 360 Booth, games and prizes.  City Councilwoman Jacquelyn Thomas (Ward 1) gathered community members:  Bryishun (BJ) Pernell, Izera Dumas and Marjorie Lynn Bowden together to present this event to show our youth how much they matter to us.

Mayor Al Kelley opened the event with an inspiring message and City Councilmen Michael Gay (Ward 2), Chris Bath (Ward 5), and Police Chief PK Johnson added their support.

The youth submitted anonymous questions and a panel answered the questions with expertise and wisdom.  Our panel members brought a wealth of experience and consisted of Steve Mitchell, Instructor at JF Ingram State Technical College and Life Coach at Elmore County Family Resource Support, Attorney Yvonne Saxon, Dispute-Less LLC, Wendell Saxon, School Board Member (District 2), Shirley Stiles, Crisis Therapist II at Carastar Diversion Center, Cheryl Calvin, Owner of Calvin Collective Company and CC Corner Chat, Church at the Brook Student Pastor Blake Johnson, and Millbrook City Clerk Lori Davis.

We’d like to thank the Millbrook Civitan for their exceptional volunteer service and Lucretia Y. Sagers 360 Booth and DJ Johnny Zeigler for their services. Thank you to the following businesses/organizations for their donations to make this event a success: City of Millbrook, Millbrook Civitan, Elmore County Board of Education, Neighborhood Grill, El Cerrito Mexican Grill, Abundant Grace Ministries, Advanced Appraisal Services, Alpha Love 2 Life, Izera’s Touch, Robinson Springs United Methodist Church, Re-Re Cook 2 Cooks Catering , Onaneshia McGhee, Stacey Calhoun, Jessica Bickley, M-L-B Enterprises LLC, Central Alabama Jaguars, Coosada Councilman Roosevelt Watkins, Kelley’s Accounting and Tax Service, Linda Smith, Jalesa  Sweeten, Jessica M.
