Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 11, because Prattville’s Way Off Broadway Theater will host a Musical Theater Workshop.

The theatre is located at 203 West Fourth Street in Prattville.

“It is a workshop that is for learning how to audition for musicals. it doesn’t have to be just for musicals. While it doesn’t have to be for musicals, the concept for an audition for a regular play, not a musical would be the same. But a musical has a little bit more involved with it,” Coordinator for Prattville’s Cultural Art’s Department Barbra Simpson said.

There will be two classes offered. The first is for adults 18 and up and is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. The second workshop is for children and will being at noon and end at 2 p.m. This is a free event; however, registration is required.

This event is for all skill levels and everyone is encouraged to attend.

“Some of the big names have been found when they weren’t even looking to be found,” Simpson said. “I think that you might not know that you’re interested in theater. If you have just a little bit of a feeling that you might be interested, I think you might find out that it’s a lot of fun.”

Simpson said this could also open the door for other components of theater.

“You learn not only about acting, but when you’re involved in the theater, even if you don’t want to be onstage, you might enjoy some of the work that goes on backstage,” she said.

Auditioning for a theatrical part can be self-esteem booster, and it can offer the experience an up-and-coming actor or actress might need.

“It’s a good confidence builder to go out to auditions, whether you get a part or not, you’ve got some experience. So, the next time you see something that that you might want to be a part of, you’ve got this experience down and you can go to the next one,” Simpson said.

This event could open a door of opportunity for someone looking to join a theater group.

“We have a lot of theater in our area,” Simpson said. “We’ve got so many very good community theaters around here, that there’s always something going on. If you have the least little inkling that you might be interested in doing something, I would say come out and give it a try,” Simpson said.
