ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS
On Thursday, the Artists and those interested in the Arts are invited to the grand opening, dedication and ribbon cutting of Millbrook’s Art Mill.
Along with the Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce, the City will have the ribbon cutting and Mayor’s dedication at 4 p.m. Following that will be tours of the facility, a Teacher Meet and Greet, and upcoming class information. An additional opportunity is the chance to see wonderful artwork on display at the Art Mill, featuring artists with the Elmore County Art Guild, including a sale of their work from 4:30 to 7 p.m.
From Danae Morgan, Millbrook’s Cultural Arts and Special Events Director – “The Art Mill will engage our citizens in visual, literary, and performing arts to enhance the quality of life in our community. This new facility houses an art studio, music studio, and gallery space for local artists. The Art Mill will be a place for local creatives to take and teach classes, workshops, and summer camps. Coming soon, Phase 2 will include the development of an indoor/outdoor pottery studio. The Art Mill will operate under the City of Millbrook’s Cultural Arts & Special Events Department.”
Danae was recently hired by the City of Millbrook in April of last year and has led the cause for all things artistic and cultural. She has put her special flair in recent events, including the Christmas Festival, Cops and Kids and many events over the last months.
Her keen eye for design is obvious in the new Art Mill. Even some of her own artwork is on display.
“I just want this facility to be a place where people can come, relax and enjoy, and leave all that other ‘stuff’ outside,” Danae said.
The public is welcome to this event. The dress is casual. If you have any interest in taking future classes, this is a great time to come, ask questions and get a good look at what is in store for Millbrook’s Artist community.
For parking, remember you can park at the Millbrook Civic Center for overflow, as a crowd is expected.
The address is 3560 Grandview Road, just north of the Millbrook Civic Center.
The property was purchased last year by the City of Millbrook. Silas Builders oversaw the reconstruction and renovation of the former home. As Millbrook works to create a downtown atmosphere that includes more businesess and quality of life, the Art Mill will be a very popular outlet for creative works.
