MILLBROOK AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE DIRECTOR
Sunday evening, the “Black History: A Celebration of Community Excellence” program was held at the Millbrook Civic Center. The theme was, “Remembering the past, recognizing the present, reaching towards the future.”
Millbrook City Council Woman Jacquelyn Long Thomas led the program, along with Angela Malone. The guest speaker was Judge Stephanie Daniels Smoke.
Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley presented Council Woman Thomas with a Proclamation declaring February as “Black History Month” in Millbrook. Several wonderful performances followed, including songs performed by The Community Choir, Kendall Hunt, and a Praise Dance by Izera Dumas.
Many well-deserving individuals and businesses were honored throughout the evening for their outstanding contributions to the community. There are so many to name but we want to definitely highlight some of our Chamber members: Ingrid Graves, MACC Board Member and Owner of The Sweet Carte, Marjorie Bowden, MACC Vice President and Owner of M-L-B Enterprises, Abundant Grace Ministries Inc, S&M Essential Party Rentals LLC., Adventure Kids Preschool & Nursery, But God Battered Women Support Group, Kingdom Dough, LLC, Hometown Kitchen, and Essence of Beauty Beauty Supply Boutique. Millbrook Senior Center Director, Olivia Venable, Robbie Heath of Millbrook Parks & Recreation, and former Mayor’s Assistant, Willie Mae Duncan were also honored.
Council Woman Thomas’ committee included Bryishun Pernell, Ann James Russell, Kimberly Smith, Monique Abram, Victoria Hines, Marjorie Bowden, Catherine Vinson, Suntrell Jackson and Sakia Abrams. Decor was provided by Izera’s Touch, Certificates by Pam Johnson, Community Choir was led by Yalonda Brown and Kalvin Smith, Catering was provided by G’s Louise, Desserts by Patricia Williams, Programs by Bryishun Pernell, and Music by DJ Johnny Ziegler.
