The folks over at Heady Scoops and Smoothies in Wetumpka will be at the Humane Shelter Elmore County this Saturday, March 4, and they are bringing chicken tacos! The crew at Heady’s will be at the shelter from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. serving up delicious chicken tacos, and all monies raised will go straight to the shelter.
“Everything that we make from that fundraiser completely goes to the Humane Society,” said Alyisa Bearden, manager of Heady Scoops and Smoothies. “Us employees and owners, we’ll set up tents and we will cook them ourselves.”
The owners at Heady Scoops and Smoothies have held other fundraisers in the community.
“We have held a couple of fundraisers for families that have lost their house during the storm.”
The owners and managers at Heady’s understand the importance of community involvement and support.
“We just have a big community here at Heady so we just would really rather take our money and have it go towards the things that are needed rather than just keep it for ourselves,” Bearden said.
Everyone is encouraged to come out and support the Humane Shelter Elmore County this weekend,
“Come on out and have a taco,” Bearden said. “You’ll just meet some really good people out there, people from the humane society. It’s something fun to do and you can help the dogs and cats at the shelter.”
The Humane Shelter Elmore County is nonprofit organization and it relies heavily on donations, sponsors and fundraiser such as this.
“It is very humbling to have a local business go out of their way to help like this, to work like this. By coming here and setting up and spending their Saturday to work so hard all to raise. Money for us,” HSEC Director Rea Cord said. “As a non-profit, any donations quickly go to good use. We are a business. Like any business, we may be a non-profit but we still pay all the same bills,” Cord said.
Like most animal shelter across the country, the HSEC is an asset to the community.
“I wish the need wasn’t so great. It would be nice if we went needed as much,” Cord said. “We’re just not there yet.”
Cord said she is thankful that Heady Scoops and Smoothies thought of the shelter and wanted to help raise for the animals that it serves.
“I want to thank them for doing this for us,” she said. “We are looking forward to Saturday, and some tacos. I think it should be a lot of fun.”
This will be the first Saturday in March, which means there will be a lot of people out and about in the area.
“Our thrift store (Tails End Thrift Store) will be booming that day. That’s the first Saturday, and it’s kind of the spring start of the whole yard sale. Santuck will be open. This place will be rocking-and rolling Saturday,” said Cord.
