Charles Moseley, of Millbrook, Arrested for Multiple Charges including Theft

FROM CHIEF P.K. JOHNSON

MILLBROOK POLICE DEPARTMENT

On Thursday, February 16, 2023, Millbrook police officers responded to the areas of Chapman Road and Mountain Ridge Road with regard to reports of multiple vehicles, which had been unlawfully entered and property stolen. While officers were taking reports, it was discovered that one of the victims had video surveillance, which captured the offender in the act of unlawfully entering their vehicle.

Upon viewing the surveillance footage, which also captured the offender’s vehicle, officers recognized the individual from having contact with him earlier during their patrol shift. Officers responded to the suspected offender’s residence, where they located both the suspect vehicle and later the suspect, who was immediately detained and later turned over to detectives. The suspect’s residence was secured pending detectives securing and serving a search warrant at said residence.

The suspect, later identified as Charles Moseley, a 30 year-old Millbrook resident, was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where he confessed to detectives that he had unlawfully entered multiple vehicles and taking various property from each, to include firearms, currency and other property. A search warrant was executed on the suspected offender’s residence, during which time detectives recovered four firearms, multiple debit/credit cards and assorted property belonging to multiple victims, who had reported thefts earlier this morning.

Charles Mosely was placed under arrest, being charged with Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft of Property 2nd Degree. Moseley was transported to the Elmore County Jail, where he remains under no bond pending arrest warrants being obtained and served.

We are extremely pleased to announce this arrest. This is an example of outstanding police work on the part of our patrol officers that initially responded to the theft complaints this morning, as well as the detectives who conducted the investigation pursuant to the initial complaints. One of our officers had contact with the suspect during his patrol shift. Upon viewing one of the victim’s surveillance footage, he immediately recognized the suspect and his vehicle.

At this time, we have at least four confirmed reports of vehicles that were unlawfully entered, with property taken from each in the Chapman Road and Mountain Ridge areas. After speaking with our detectives, it appears that we have sufficient evidence to secure warrants against the alleged offender for the following offenses:

Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle (7 counts)

Theft of Property 1st Degree

Theft of Property 2nd Degree (2 counts)

Theft of Property 3rd Degree (4 counts)

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming. I’m extremely proud of the work done by each of the officers and detectives involved in this case. That said, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind our citizens to secure their vehicles and take the time to remove items of value from their vehicles, particularly firearms.

The overwhelming majority of cases like this start with an unsecure vehicle, where the owner has unfortunately left also their property unsecured. That’s exactly the opportunity that individuals like this are looking for. Please help us help you by making sure that you don’t leave your property unsecured.
