Autauga County Deputy exposed to Opioid; Treated at Hospital and Recovering

Autauga County Sheriff’s Office

Late last night, one of our deputies was exposed to an opioid that caused him to be dizzy and glossy eyed. We are not sure at this time if the substance was fentanyl. It is being tested. The supervisors on shift exhibited proper training by noticing the deputy’s demeanor along with symptoms and administering Narcan. The deputy himself followed proper procedure while searching the car he pulled over. He was wearing gloves, but still fell victim to exposure. The deputy was taken to the hospital and released. He is doing fine. Please stay aware of your surroundings and substances you come in contact with. Fentanyl can be very harmful, and in some cases, deadly.
