FROM THE ELMORE COUNTY COMMISSION
On January 19, 2023, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued an amendment to major disaster declaration, FEMA-4684-DR, for the state of Alabama. The amendment adds Coosa, Elmore and Hale counties to the original declaration and enables the three counties and their citizens access to Individual Assistance (IA) and Public Assistance (PA) categories A and B. PA Categories A and B provide state and local governments the opportunity to receive reimbursement for eligible activities. These would be related to the removal of debris from public property and emergency protective measures used in response to the events of January 12th.
Elmore County Commission Chairman Bart Mercer stated “We thank our federal and state partners in expediting this amended declaration for our citizens. While we know this is a first step in the road to recovery for so many across our county, we appreciate the additional resources being made available to our county and overall county family”.
Elmore County will continue to meet with FEMA and state EMA officials to ensure the county is providing our citizens the information needed to pursue long term recovery efforts.
Individuals impacted by the tornado and severe weather of January 12th, 2023, can apply for disaster assistance through FEMA’s IA program at disasterassistance.gov, by using the FEMA mobile app, or by calling 800-621-3362. The helpline is open, and help is available from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Central Time in most languages. If you use video relay service (VRS), captioned telephone service or others, give FEMA the number for that service.
In addition to FEMA’s IA Program, individuals impacted may complete an application for assistance through the Elmore County Disaster Relief Fund (ECDRF).
