On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, Millbrook police responded to Walmart, located at 145 Kelley Blvd, with regard to a theft in progress. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the alleged offender, later identified as Shelia Tillman, a 56-year-old Montgomery resident, attempted to leave the business with approximately $650.00 worth of merchandise without remitting payment. Tillman was taken into custody, without incident, being placed under arrest for Theft of Property 3rd Degree. Tillman was transported to the Millbrook Police Department, where she was turned over to detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigative Division. Tillman was processed and later transported to the Elmore County Jail, where she remains awaiting warrants to be obtained and served.

In speaking with our detective with regard to this case, it is my understanding that the alleged offender admitted to the theft with regard to this incident. In fact, the alleged offender stated that she came to Millbrook to “go shopping.”.

I’ve always thought shopping involved a purchase, i.e.… you pay for your merchandise before attempting to leave the business. I’m reasonably sure I’m correct on that. That said, I have a strong suggestion. If you come to our Walmart, or any other business in our city, to “go shopping,” it would be a good idea to pay for the merchandise prior to attempting to leave the business. If not, you stand a pretty good chance of being the recipient of a parting gift of silver bracelets and a ride to the Elmore County Jail.

In all seriousness, as we rapidly approach the holiday season, we are mindful that this type of activity always seems to increase. We welcome folks coming into our city to do legitimate shopping and business, but strongly discourage those, who plan on not paying, as it would be a shame to spend the holiday season incarcerated.
