Millbrook Middle School hosted their inaugural “Fritters with Father Figures” event at the seventh and eighth grade building in the school library recently. Over 50 fathers and father figures attended the event. This was only for male Millbrook Middle School students, in grades fifth through eighth grade, and their fathers or father figures.

Keith Moore is the Director of Violence Prevention and was the guest speaker at the event. He spoke on issues about bullying and violence prevention and how to keep young men on the right track. There was also a question-and-answer portion as well. A Continental breakfast was served to the students and their fathers or father figures.

Moore spoke to the fathers and father figures about how vital is for them to be involved in the lives of their sons.

“Being present does not mean just being in the house. You have to be there emotionally for them. You have to put in time. The youth are listening to us. Therefore, we have to be mindful of the things that we say and do because they will imitate what they see and hear,” said Moore.

Mr. Wendell Saxon, District 2 Board Member, also gave words of encouragement.

“Our young men need to continue to work hard and excel. You must have integrity and it will keep you on the right path,” said Saxon.

“I applaud our males and their father figures for showing out today. We even had a father figure (coach) who brought six of his players. It was truly an amazing event. Director Moore did a tremendous job in talking to us about what it means to be involved, not just in the same room with, but mentally present with our children. We are excited about our next event, ‘Donuts and Divas’ for our MMS girls and their mother figures in November,” said Sean Kreauter, Principal for Millbrook Middle School.

“I am thankful for the families that were represented today. It did my heart well to see so many fathers and father figures that took the time out of their busy schedules to come because they know the success of their boys depend on them,” said Letitia Ruffin-Johnson, Assistant Principal. “The boys who were in attendance enjoyed the message from the speaker. I was so overwhelmed with the generosity and the willingness to help from the businesses in Millbrook. Kingdom Dough provided the fritters and donuts. Main Street Vintage Market provided the gift bags and coffee. The coffee was from Sweet Hart Coffee Company. Sweet Hart Coffee Company has an original coffee called Brook City named for the city of Millbrook. It was a hit with the coffee drinkers. Millbrook Middle School is doing great things with the support of the community.”

“Fritters with Father Figures at MMS was a great success! Thanks to Mrs. Letitia Ruffin-Johnson for putting together such a positive and encouraging event for our MMS males. We also want to thank Mr. Keith Moore, Director of Violence Prevention-Montgomery for being our keynote speaker. We want to give a shout out to Kingdom Dough, LLC and Sweet Hart Coffee Co, for providing the donuts, apple fritters, and coffee. Main Street Vintage Market provided a donation and the gifts for the prizes for the fathers and father figures,” Millbrook Middle School Facebook post.

In November, Millbrook Middle School will host a “Donuts for Divas” event for MMS girls and their mothers or mother figures.
