Autaugaville School celebrated Homecoming the week of October 3-7, 2022, with spirit days, a parade, a royal coronation, and finally the football game. All grades Pre-K – 12th Grade participated in the festivities as well as the community. The community rallied around all the students to show their school pride and even hosted their annual tailgate prior to the football game on Friday night.

The school hosted a Spirit Week sponsored by the Student Government Association, led by Mrs. Candice Petty. Mrs. Petty planned the whole celebration with help of students and faculty, and pulled it off flawlessly.

Monday was a school favorite, as all were encouraged to wear their pajamas to school. Tuesday was “White Lie Day” where students wore white shirts with a small lie written on it, with most being quite humorous. Wednesday was “Western Wear” and Thursday was “Decades Day.” Friday was “School Spirit Day” and then the students had a pep rally and parade through town.

The Royal Coronation took place on Thursday night, and it was the first coronation in a few years due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Many faculty and alumni stepped up to host this event. Alumni decorated the gym to perfection, while a former teacher, Mrs. Ernestine Womack, taught the official coronation routine.

Students were introduced and then performed a special dance for all in attendance.

Friday, the Seniors of AHS were treated to a special breakfast from Valinda Roberts, the District Behavior Interventionist. The Seniors got to experience a good bit of special treatment during this whole week. The parade took place around 2:00 P.M. and toured through the town of Autaugaville allowing students, families, and community members to all participate. The pep rally followed the parade and all were welcome to attend. The cheerleaders led with a bang and got the crowd pumped and excited for the game. Football players were cheered on and five of the players created a drumline and filled the gymnasium with beats to get even the grumpiest person dancing. Coach Jackson thanked the crowd and encouraged all students and community members to attend the game and support “our boys.”

The Friday evening festivities were a treat for all as alumni lined the parking lot with tents and great food. The Homecoming presentation took place before the game and the AHS Alumni Drumline played in the stands all night long. While the team lost in a close battle with Loachapoka 22-18, the atmosphere was electric. Autaugaville’s next home game will be Friday, October 21, against Central Hayneville and the theme is “Pink Out for Breast Cancer Awareness.”
