ELMORE/AUTAUGA NEWS

Wolf & Mercantile just recently opened in the heart of Downtown Prattville. Sitting a few doors down from Uncle Micks and Fox’s Pizza Den, this somewhat hidden gem offers many different types of items such as crystals, vintage and antique pieces, records, clothing, jewelry, and other locally made items throughout. Their first full moon event was held on September 9, with the Hunter’s Moon Party.

With the proximity to Halloween, staff welcomed the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus who ran “amok” through the shop as well as Halloween’s Michael Myers. One of their vendors, Sarah Holt, was serving samples of her Mugwort tea which is just one of the several available teas she has to offer for purchase as well.

This little shop of oddities is owned by Anna Evans who, along with Wolf and Mercantile, has an estate sale business called Evans Estate Sales. You can follow them on their Facebook page.

The EAN spoke with Anna and she gave a little background of what started this new business in historic downtown Prattville.

“Wolf & Mercantile was originally Wolf & Mercury. Before the Pandemic started, I was making jewelry at home to try and make some extra cash. The more I got into jewelry making, the more I was drawn to gemstones, and I knew NOTHING about them,” Anna said. “All I knew was that I thought they were beautiful and I loved seeing other people enjoy my pieces. When the pandemic hit, I was pregnant and I really honed in on making jewelry to make ends meet because nobody would hire someone who was pregnant.  My serving job at the time was not bringing in enough money. Well, fast forward to three years later and my love for gemstones has blossomed into a full-blown shop. I changed the name from Wolf & Mercury to Wolf & Mercantile because I wanted to offer more than just jewelry and gemstones. So. I figured my new name was a good play on the original name that I had created for my business.”

Anna said she always wanted to be a business owner, and a leader of some sort.

“I really hope to bring together the community in new ways. I want people to have a place to go where nobody is judged. I want people to have somewhere they belong. I want to educate and open minds. But I also want to give back and I’m already working on ways to do that.”

The month of November Wolf & Mercantile will not be hosting a full moon party, but more events will be coming soon. The store is closed on Mondays, but you can catch Anna or some of her amazing staff at the store Tuesday – Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The address is 150 W Main St, Prattville, AL  36067
