The Millbrook Police Department hosted their 12th annual Cops and Kids Day at Village Green Park Saturday with beautiful weather and great family fun.

Over 2,.000 attended this event which is one of the largest turnouts in the history of the program. T-shirts were given out to the first 950 children. There was plenty of food, fun, music, bounce houses and games at no charge. The goal of Cops and Kids is for children to interact with local police officers, firefighters, and other public safety workers.

Multiple displays and a K-9 demonstration took place during the event. It was a great opportunity for citizens to get to know the public servants as human beings, while enjoying being around them and getting to know them.

For the Opening Ceremony this year, Chaplain O.J. Johnson prayed with the crowd of people in attendance. Dashaun Caffee, an 11th grade student and football player for the Stanhope Elmore High School Mustangs, sang the national anthem. The Three Rivers Chapter of the Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club President Johnny Stiles and members presented Chief P.K. Johnson a check for $15,000 to be used for the Millbrook Police Department’s Operation Blue Santa Campaign. The proceeds were a result of fundraisers by the Three Rivers Chapter of the Punishers LEMC during this past year.

DJ Kyle Kessler from Kyle-Co Entertainment was the DJ for the event.

Chief P.K. Johnson spoke highly about the Three Rivers Chapter of the Punishers LEMC.

“There is not anything small about this group of people, with the exception of their membership roster. The work they do far exceeds the number of folks working, that’s for sure. Their hard work and generous donation will help the Millbrook Police Department put a lot of smiles on little faces this Christmas, for some kids that may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift. We are both thankful and proud to have them as our supporters and part of the Millbrook Police Department family,” said Johnson.

“I want to thank everyone who joined us Saturday for the Millbrook Police Department’s 12 annual Cops and Kids Day. We were blessed with the phenomenal weather, a great turnout and super support from our partners, who help make this event possible each year. As my boss, Mayor Al Kelley, often says, anytime you start thanking folks you always leave someone out. That said, here’s my attempt. A huge Thank You to our local businesses, church groups, and civic organizations and citizens, whose generous donations and time volunteered help make this event a success. A special shoutout to the Three Rivers Chapter of the Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club. Thank you to Mayor Al Kelley, the Millbrook Fire Department, Parks and Recreation and other city departments for your support and participation in helping make this event possible. Last but not certainly not least, a huge Thank You to Lieutenant Stephen Youngblood Jr., Corporal Kristen White, Melissa Stiles, who are on our event planning committee, and all our staff who participated in making today’s event a reality. I saw a lot of huge smiles on a lot of children’s faces today and that’s what it’s all about! A simple thank you is not an accurate expression of my gratitude and appreciation for the job that each of you did today and your service to our citizens on a daily basis. To everyone involved, Thank You and Job Well Done,” said Johnson.

A big thank you to the Grandview YMCA and Bill Myers for providing the bounce houses for the day!

The City of Millbrook is hosting their 13th annual Boo Festival at Village Green Park on October 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a farmers market, costume contests, pumpkin patch, hayrides, Bike-R-Treat, Pumpkin Toss Contest, hay mountain, food trucks, DJ, candy, games and much more.
