TALLASSEE FIRE DEPARTMENT UNVEILED NEW LIFESAVING EQUIPMENT

FROM FIREHOUSE SUBS PUBLIC SAFETY FOUNDATION

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is a firefighter’s main line of defense against burns, smoke inhalation and numerous other dangers faced on the job every day. Unfortunately, nearly two-thirds of U.S. fire departments used outdated protective gear last year, according to the National Fire Protection Association.

This year, thanks to a $23,570 grant from Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, the heroes of Tallassee Fire Department will be better equipped to save the lives of fellow citizens in Elmore, Tallapoosa and Macon Counties. Until now, the Tallassee Fire Department has been using 10-year old protective gear that’s outdated and worn down, ridden with rips and holes.

On Thursday, August 25, the Tallassee Fire Department proudly unveiled ten new sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) made possible thanks to a $23,570 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. Proceeds from purchases made at U.S. Firehouse Subs restaurants provided the funding for this grant award.

To date, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has granted over $3.2 million to first responder organizations across Alabama and $369,000 in greater Montgomery-Selma.
