Auburn University Montgomery Men’s Soccer will be heading to Millbrook tonight to play a game at the new field at 17 Springs. The fields in Montgomery are unplayable due to the weather, so the AUM team reached out to Bill Myers, Executive Director at Grandview YMCA, to discuss the possibility of playing in Millbrook. AUM is a partner of the YMCA program and as this is an emergency situation, the Grandview YMCA and partners were glad to provide the field at 17 Springs. AUM Warhawks take on the Lions of Saint Leo University tonight at 7pm.
Myers tells us “The beauty of this turf field is that it is made to handle weather conditions just like what is happening today. The field drains perfectly and there will be a game tonight as long as there is no lightning.” The field in use was first played on by Stanhope Elmore High School this past March, and the field is definitely made for any conditions. This is an exciting opportunity for the area.
Spectators are welcome to attend as there will be no gate charge for tonight’s event at 7pm. Since the park is still under construction, there is however no permanent seating for fans, so anyone in attendance will need to bring their own tailgating chair.
The whole town is excited for this opportunity. Officials say they are excited to host a Collegiate Soccer game at 17 Springs. This is part of the long term plan to bring high level sporting events to Elmore County. The City thanks Auburn University Montgomery for the confidence in bringing their program to Millbrook. There is so much in the works for what 17 Springs will offer the city and community upon completion, but to have a college already planning to use the facilities is a great thing. Myers says “This just shows you the value of what’s being built here and how awesome this community truly is.”
The 17 Springs Project is very unique throughout the state of Alabama because it involve five partnerships. Those partners include the City of Millbrook, the Elmore County Commission, the Elmore County Board of Education, the Elmore County Economic Development Association, and the Montgomery/Grandview YMCA programs.
