The Holtville Community congregated at Boykin-Chapman Field on Friday night, August 12, in anticipation of the upcoming athletic seasons to begin. The atmosphere was energetic and it seemed that the entire town was present. The smell of stadium food filled the air as everyone mingled in the hottest spot in town.

Meet the Bulldogs is an annual event hosted by the High School in conjunction with the Holtville Youth League. The crowd was boisterous and Head Coach and Athletic Director Jason Franklin said “We always have great support from the community and that support helps drive our program and create a great environment on Friday nights.”

The youth football teams and cheerleaders were introduced individually and allowed for the younger students to get the sense of pride that the high school students feel every Friday night. The whole stadium cheered, even if some of the kiddos seemed shy to have their name announced over the loudspeaker. The high school team and cheer squad were introduced collectively and then the high school scrimmaged.

The scrimmage was intense with White vs. Green. The defense performed extremely well, while the offense showed off some of their new power plays. No doubt everyone needs to keep their eye on this team being led by starting quarterback Tanner Potts. The boys showed what they’ve worked on over the summer to prepare for the upcoming season.

After the scrimmage the community stayed for a Family Friendly movie in the stadium. It was a jam-packed night of fun events.

Principal Kyle Futral spoke with EAN and said “The event went great with a huge turnout from the community! There is a buzz of excitement and energy around the program as we look to continue to build upon the past four years of four consecutive playoff appearances. We are always excited to provide excellent extracurricular and educational experiences for our student athletes here at HHS.”

Futral encourages everyone to come out and support all of Holtville’s Fall Sports this season. The Lady Bulldogs Volleyball team kicks off their season at home on Thursday, August 18 against Montevallo beginning at 4:30 p.m. – tickets can be purchased HERE. Then Friday night the Holtville Bulldogs host Fultondale and tickets can be purchased HERE. Be sure to follow Holtville High School on social media and you can look for updates on EAN.
