Statewide Tour of Veterans Well-Being Town Hall coming to Mobile Monday

FROM THE ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS

MOBILE, Ala. – The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs (ADVA) is excited to announce the City of Mobile will serve as the next stop on a statewide tour of Veterans well-being town halls hosted by partners of Alabama’s Challenge for Preventing Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans, and their Families (SMVF).

The town hall is scheduled for Monday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park and will be followed by a Veterans resources and job fair. The event is open to all Veterans, friends, and community members in Mobile and Baldwin counties and will conclude at 2 p.m.

The town hall will feature presenters at the community, state, and national levels to discuss services they provide Alabama Veterans. Additional service providers will be available during the resources and job fair. The town hall will also feature a question-and-answer session.

Alabama’s Challenge is an initiative aimed to create an impactful, long-term outcome across the state as we continue fighting a stigma with mental illness. Raising awareness of suicide prevention can help us understand the cause and circumstances that lead to mental health issues. The ADVA is a lead agency within Alabama’s Challenge and assists with connecting with SMVF to provide information and knowledge about suicide, provide support, and provide resources and options to deal with PTSD and crisis situations.
