Nominations Sought for Awards which recognize Contributions of People with Disabilities, Businesses that Provide Employment

MONTGOMERY – The Alabama Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities is seeking nominations for its annual Statewide Awards, which recognize the contributions and successes of people with disabilities, and those businesses that provide opportunities for individuals with disabilities to achieve through competitive, integrated employment.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said that she looks forward to hearing more stories of those who have benefited from these opportunities.

“As always, it is important to recognize the achievements of our hardworking Alabamians – especially those with disabilities,” she said. “Not only have these individuals overcome their own challenges, but they have excelled in their line of work and have made major contributions to their industries. I am proud of our business communities for their dedication in being inclusive environments and assisting individuals with disabilities to reach their fullest potential. We look forward to reviewing all the nominations that are sent in.”

This year, the awards event will be held in person during the Alabama Statewide Workforce Conference on Sept. 7-9 at the Birmingham Hyatt (formerly the Wynfrey).

Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services Commissioner Jane Elizabeth Burdeshaw said she knows that there are many success stories in Alabama and

www.rehab.alabama.gov encourages everyone to submit their nominations as soon as possible.

“By nominating the successful consumers and employers you know, you’re helping others realize what an asset people with disabilities are to growing Alabama’s economy,” she said. “The award winners truly represent the blueprint of our department and our mission: to enable Alabama’s children and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum potential.”

The Alabama Governor’s Committee is seeking nominations for the following awards:

• Employee of the Year – Large Business

• Employee of the Year – Small Business

• Employer of the Year – Large Business

• Employer of the Year – Small Business

• Public Service Award

• Student of the Year Award

The deadline for submitting nominations is no later than July 15 at 5 p.m.
