Elmore County Clean Up Day Brings Volunteers out in Big Numbers

Elmore/Autauga News

Elmore County Clean Up day was held recently and by all reports it sounds like it was a big success. Elmore County Chief Operations Officer Richie Beyer said there were 16 groups that signed up with the County for the bags, gloves, and vests but according to Elmore County Commissioner Henry Hines, there were at least 30 groups active and involved in cleaning up at various parts of the county.

Hines said there was a big turnout with the HOBO Lake Jordan group to clean up along the shores and in the waters of the lake. Hines added there was a large turnout at Bonners on Lake Martin for cleaning up along the shores of Lake Martin.

Passing through the county it was easy to find families and homeowners along Highway 14, 111, 231, 170 and Highway 9 cleaning up stretches of the roadways around their homes. Even this reporter ventured up and down a stretch of Highway 14 on both sides of the road and filled up two bags of trash. It is amazing what some people will throw out along the roads. Officials say the first day of the Clean Up was a big success, even though there were other various events around our area occurring simultaneously.

The two-day event did a lot to remove trash from the county, but this must be an ongoing process, officials said. Do your part every day. Thank you to all who participated.
